Dragon Con 2025
2:51 read
Dragon Con, the annual nerd party of all nerd parties, just celebrated its 39th year. That's an impressive milestone in the world of fan conventions. At a time when most conventions weren't even a glimmer in the eyes of their founders, Dragon Con was serving panels, balls and cosplay opportunities for Trekkies, fantasy geeks, and whoever was into very niche stuff in 1987. The term cosplay was only coined just a few years earlier in 1983.
Today, Dragon Con draws over 85,000 attendees across five days of events. While it's not the biggest fan convention in North America, it qualifies as the biggest "everything" con. It's not just an anime convention or a comic convention. In fact it's not really either of those things. It's a convention with broad appeal. If you are into puppetry, there's a track of panels for you. Astronomy? Yep, they have that too. Celebrities, of course, along with WWE style wrestling, themed balls, expansive gaming opportunities, and so much more. You can be a Trekkie, a Star Wars nerd, a Doctor Who fan, or a Disney fan. You're all welcome at Dragon Con and you'll find others who are into the same things.
Dragon Con has somewhat of a unique distinction of being a very large con which isn't held at a civic convention center. Instead, it makes use of five host hotels along with some surrounding properties to house the fun antics of the attendees. These hotels are gracious hosts who have to put up with rambunctious crowds and unique and sometimes raunchy behavior. Large and bulky cosplay builds which cause traffic jams are tolerated. Nearly topless except for pasties is also okay 👍. The crowd runs older, perhaps averaging mid 30s, so at least they party a bit more responsibly.
Getting into Dragon Con isn't too hard. Badges are sold up to and during the event and they typically don't sell out. Hotels, on the other hand, are harder to come by. An entire book could be written around getting a room at one of the five host hotels. Just be aware that rooms are limited and demand is high. Go follow the Dragon Con Hotel Connections group on Facebook for up-to-date information on how to book your room.
The Cosplayers
Cosplay is a big part of every fan convention. Dragon Con stands out in that it draws some of the most unique cosplay you'll see anywhere. Imagine a life-sized Furby or a Zoltar fortune teller cosplay or a mashup of Rambo and Barbie. Obscure characters from 1980s sitcoms are brought to life. Perhaps you've seen photos of hundreds of fans of the same series gathered at the emergency exit steps of the Hilton. It's something not to be found at any other convention in the world.
Please enjoy these cosplayers and definitely check out the video for a better look. Special thanks to Fansly for sponsoring this video.
